The Balms Foundation for Children is a not-for-profit organisation. Our priority is to develop activities that promote the protection of children’s rights, according to the terms stipulated in the International Convention on Protection of Children, signed by the United Nations in The Hague in 1993, and in particular the right of all boys and girls to:
‘Grow up in a family that provides them with affection, security and basic care’ (Convention on the Rights of the Child, UN, 20th November 1989).
Another of our primary objectives is to carry out activities related to the principles and objectives of the International Development Cooperation, according to the conditions specified in the International Development Cooperation Act 23/1998, dated 7th July.
For this purpose, the following activities are in progress:
- The search, throughout Spain, for families to adopt children. For this, there is a team comprised of a Lawyer, a Psychologist, a Social Worker and the representative of the Foundation in Columbia.
- o International Cooperation with Columbia and Peru. These are two countries in which we develop different projects concerning the most marginalised children and those particularly at risk.
In order for these activities to ensue, we have a team consisting of a Social Educator and a person in charge of accounting, as well as several volunteers who help us in the various events that may take place throughout the year.
- o Sensitivity and social awareness on issues related to child protection and the defence of their rights, through the publication of a magazine and the organisation of events to broadcast our objectives and activities.
